The “Pequeño Valiente” Association is a non-profit-making association formed by parents in the Canaries who have children with cancer. In 2006 a group of families found deficiencies and demands in the paediatric Onco-haematology department and so joined forces to create an association that would satisfy these needs. Since that time, more than ten years ago, we have been reaching milestones and developing projects and activities that help us to reach our main goal, without forgetting the pledge we made from the very beginning to those people who in one way or another help us to carry on. From the very beginning, we have carried out all our work with one single aim in mind: our mission to give children with cancer and their families a better quality of life, as is stipulated in our statutes. To this end. We have various projects and programmes aimed at covering the needs and demands of the beneficiaries, throughout the archipelago. Our aims are as follows: To provide psychological support and social care to families at different stages of the disease, as well as the hospital equipment necessary for the children and their families to enjoy being in comfortable surroundings. To offer the families information about the disease, and all that this entails. To facilitate communication and mutual help among those affected by the disease through activities outside the hospital. To give information about economic help and social care, both in the public and the private sector, including that of our own association. To offer the necessary information on the disease and its consequences. To offer the necessary means to those children diagnosed with terminal cancer to fulfil their wishes. To give the children a support teacher so they don’t get left behind with their schoolwork. Our work is aimed at children and adolescents between the ages of 0 and 18, and their families, However, they are not the only ones whom we wish to have a positive impact on. We have several groups who collaborate with us and support our work and help us to achieve our objectives. We have several programmes and projects aimed at fulfilling the needs of the youngest patients, the most relevant of which are listed below: Psychological support programme. Social care programme. Help me to carry on programme. Educational reinforcement programme. Voluntary social care programme. Family respite project. Leisure and Free-time project Promotion and Awareness project. My Little Home project.
