About Organization
Tactical Tech is an international NGO whose mission is to build capacity at the intersection of human rights and technology in order to create more equitable, democratic and sustainable societies. We explore how digital technologies affect rights, equity and sustainability and how they shift power structures. Tactical Tech works on the impact of technology on society. It works from the principle that the challenges of digital and data-driven technologies reflect our societal, political and environmental moment. In coming years we will work on three core content themes that run across our activities: Crisis of Information: Tackling the shifting digital information landscape, from misinformation to political influencing and targeting. Personal Data: Exploring how the wide scale use of personal data impacts agency, inclusion and equity. Techno-fixes: Investigating the use of digital technologies to solve and control large scale environmental and social problems. Those are translated into topics and projects such as: The Glass Room, Data Detox Kit, What the Future Wants, Exploring the Invisible. We work to build the capacity of civil society organisations, communities and citizens worldwide to explore and mitigate the social, economic, environmental and cultural impact of digital technologies on their immediate context and on society at large. Our work informs the responses of key stakeholders, provides practical solutions and enables our audiences to make more informed decisions and take action. At Tactical Tech we organise activities directed to a wide general audiences such as indoor and outdoor, online exhibitions, workshops demystifying technology, promoting discussion and critical thinking. We develop and publish Data Detox Kit our practical hands-on guide, enabling users to make informed decisions and access tips and tools related to their digital security, privacy and well-being. Those materials include also a version dedicated to young audience where we explore how the next generation engages with the digital environment they inhabit and will inherit. Last but not least, our research and publications based on specialised knowledge are exploring how do issues of rights, freedoms and sustainability link to technology. In Data & Politics we explain how political influence works online or with Digital investigation Kit and Exposing the Invisible we advance digital investigation capabilities among a broad range of actors, giving them the skills to find, verify, analyze and present evidence-based information, safely and ethically. More about Tactical Tech: https://tacticaltech.org Volunteers will have an opportunity to contribute and learn about at least one of those areas. We would like to welcome in our team engaged young adults, keen to explore or already interested in the influence of digital technologies on today’s society. The volunteers will be involved in activities with for example the following tasks: - coordination, learning on planning and design of content linked to a process of organising the events (workshops, exhibitions) directly in Berlin and Germany or in cooperation with partners globally; - research projects or work on content (data analysis, desk research, translating, editing, rewriting research content for materials and publications for a wider public); - project communications (editing small articles and content for the website, editing websites, updating social media). Volunteers will have an opportunity to define with a help of the tutor and manager their goals, including learning, acquiring new skills or ideas for own initiatives as long as they are with the organisational scope and plans, as well as capacity. Tactical Tech ist eine internationale NGO, deren Aufgabe es ist, an der Kreuzung von Menschenrechten und Technologie Kapazitäten aufzubauen, um gerechtere, demokratischere und nachhaltigere Gesellschaften zu erreichen.
