About Organization
The Association Gombervaux was created in 1989 to restore the medieval castle of Gombervaux, built in the14th century. The ruines of the castle are listed as historical buildings since 1994. Gombervaux is member of REMPART network. It is located in the north-east of France, in the little town of Vaucouleurs. The association has several and varied missions : First, save the castel is the priority. Each year are organized volunteer workcamps. There are different types of workcamps : - Stone layout and stone cut camp to restore a tower - Joinery workcamp to make doors for the castle Some years, the site welcomes international workcamps (Erasmus). The second mission is the animation of the place with visits and different events all the year. Group visits are organized for all people (children to adults). In summer, the visitors can also enjoy individual visits if they wish it. Last year, for the first time but not the last, the association organized a night walk and a party for Halloween. In winter there are conferences named "Les Hivernales de Gombervaux". They help to keep the association alive even in the off-season. There is no target groups. All activities concern all the groups. But these last years, the association work to even more open the castle to everyone, including disabled people. The last mission is the castle study with experimentation about archaeological researches. Today, someone is working on a 3D reconstruction of the castle and medieval life.
