About Organization
KUD Transformator The activist-theatrical troupe Transformator is an ensemble working on different ways of using the techniques of the Theatre of the Oppressed, also known as Theatre for Social Change. Transformator was formed by participants of a 17-day long series of intensive workshops and lectures on the techniques of the Theatre of the Oppressed held in October and November 2010 organised by Global Sofa and lead by Birgit Fritz (Theatre of Oppressed Vienna, Austria). The troupe's main and most important source of creative energy are contemporary social issues which Transformator dwells upon, heats up and distils to offer the emergent concoction to the public for processing, transformation and constructive critique. Stemming from diverse professions and areas of education of the members, the techniques of the Theatre of the oppressed are mostly applied from the point of view of individual work. Put into practice, this allows for a rich interdisciplinary insight, exchange of opinions and multi-layered treatment of issues. Through the diverse knowledge, creativity and energies, the performances and actions transform the established techniques of the Theatre of the oppressed by combining street theatre with puppets, classical acting with forum theatre, interactive street theatre with flash mobs etc. Our speciality is functioning according to the principles of 'call-theatre'. The passionate, original, humorous and generous theatre cuisine is seasoned with bold interventions, when needed and ad hoc. Once the Transformator's spirit awakes, it gives vent to the fiery social sensibility and a need for change and transformation. The 'oppressed' become visible and audible. What is left after a performance is not just the mere taste of revolt. In a word, rebellion has never been that sexy.
