About Organization
“Lo Spiegone Aps” is a non-profit organisation founded in Rome in 2019 whose goals include informing and spreading awareness about topics related to current international affairs using verified and reliable sources. All its members are under-30 volunteers coming from all over Italy. They handle all the activities: management of the organisation, planning and producing contents, communication, dissemination, monitoring of activities, creation of partnerships and collaborations. “Lo Spiegone Aps”’ main project is the news website of the same name. “Lo Spiegone” started in 2016 as an online blog about international politics, economy, culture and sociology. It was officially registered as a news organisation in March 2020. Lo Spiegone intends to promote slow journalism, a concept not so widespread in Italy. Slow journalism foresees the elaboration and the publication of articles written in a simple, direct, explanatory and exhaustive manner. The editorial staff of Lo Spiegone is divided into geographical areas and topics. One of the most important areas of interest for Lo Spiegone is Europe and the European Union (EU). In the last years, the Europe desk worked on a number of editorial initiatives, projects, events and collaborations which meet the purposes of this call. More in detail: in the runup to the 2019 European elections, Lo Spiegone published the project “Explain the EU - History, law and future in the year of European elections” and promoted the “Campaign for the right to vote for all Italian citizens during European elections”; in 2020 Lo Spiegone was selected to take part to the European Youth Event (EYE), suspended because of COVID-19 pandemic and it realized the discussion “Beyond emergency: a talk about European perspectives for responding to the crisis” within the series of events promoted by Europe City Project - Milano; In 2021 Lo Spiegone has launched the editorial series “EU Observatory: with Lo Spiegone inside European Institutions”; finally, Lo Spiegone collaborates with other Italian news websites and research institutes: “Affari Internazionali”, “Eunews” and “EUreka”. In the near future, in a context of increasing distrust towards the European institutions, Lo Spiegone, inter alia, will pursue the following objectives: spread information, using reliable sources, about topics related to current affairs of the EU; spread the culture of information and study of history, culture, economics and sociology by organising events and activities open to the public about the EU; elaborate texts and other educational materials useful to promote a bigger comprehension of Europe, in order to strengthen the feeling of European identity and integration. Producing and spreading reliable and accessible information contributes to promoting a European understanding, fosters the development of a shared sense of European identity, integration and community, and serves as a role model for young people, strengthening our democracies. https://lospiegone.com/
