Association for mutual asistance in mental distress TK "Feniks"

On the initiative of a group of citizens interested in improving and humanizing the lives of the mentally ill, in April 2000, the Association for Mutual Assistance in Mental Distress "FENIKS" was founded in Tuzla. The association operates as a non-governmental, non-profit organization. The basic purpose of the Association is to improve mutual support, and alternative ways of surviving the crisis, to participate in the formation of mental health policy in the area where it operates, to evaluate the work of important medical and social institutions, and to take care of increasing the quality of life of people who are labeled as "mentally ill". The Feniks Association can today be said to be the leader of activities in the former Yugoslavia region and Southeast Europe when it comes to user associations. This is confirmed by regular contacts with European bodies for mental health, the World Health Organization, and other organizations that appoint and recommend representatives and associates of Feniks for various forms of participation, consultation and leadership when it comes to mental health issues in the region. The mission of the "Feniks" Association for mutual help in mental distress is, to work on empowering users of services to protect mental health and persons with psychosocial difficulties and their relatives towards realizing their interests and rights and improving their quality of life. Feniks' vision is the vision of a Bosnian society in which all citizens, especially users of mental health services and people with psychosocial disabilities live with full dignity and with civic, national, religious, social and legal security, full equality and the possibility of expressing all their individual and collective interests.
