De Gasperi Foundation

The De Gasperi Foundation, established in 1982, is a cultural institute based in Rome that preserves and promotes the historical legacy of Alcide De Gasperi, the acknowledged father of democratic Italy and the European Union. The Foundation conveys the ideal, moral and political teachings of De Gasperi through a variety of activities, ranging from research and editorial projects to conferences, exhibitions, podcasts, and youth education, on a national, European and international level. Its target audience includes institutional and governmental authorities, policy-makers and senior officials, scholars and experts, civil society and media representatives, as well as young professionals and students from universities and high schools. The topics dealt with reflect De Gasperi’s main areas of engagement as a statesman and political leader: - Democracy and Institutions. The Foundation fosters reflection and debate on the quality of democratic and institutional life, the process of European integration, the safeguarding of fundamental rights and freedoms. - Geopolitics and Security. The Foundation is committed to addressing key geopolitical and security issues concerning Europe and the Mediterranean region, in line with the vision for peace and cooperation advocated by De Gasperi. - Economy and Social Justice. The Foundation develops ideas and proposals that combine economic growth and common good, highlighting the need to ensure the dignity of the human person through sound and sustainable policies. The efforts of the Foundation are directed and oversighted by a Scientific Committee including prominent scholars, experts and practitioners, while ad hoc working groups are setup to design and carry out specific projects and initiatives. The Foundation belongs to the network of the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies, based in Brussels (www.martenscentre.eu/members/de-gasperi-foundation). Moreover, the Foundation maintains close partnership relations with Robert Schuman Foundation (France), Konrad Adenauer Foundation (Germany), Hanss Seidel Foundation (Germany), Atlantic Council (United States), and other major organizations. The Foundation holds extensive experience in project design and management, implementing activities from conception to successful execution. Among the Foundation’s flagship initiatives are: - “De Gasperi’s Year”, an ongoing program of activities to celebrate to 70th anniversary of De Gasperi’s passing, occurred on 19 August 1954. The events are taking place both in Italy and abroad (Brussels, Paris, Berlin, Vienna, Washington). - “Security and Defence Days”, an annual international conference on European security held in Rome, organized in collaboration with the NATO Public Diplomacy Division (4 editions). - “EuPeople”, an annual School of Politics open to over 100 young professionals and university students under-35, organized in collaboration with the Wilfried Martens Centre for European Studies. The Foundation’s activities are widely disseminated through social media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, YouTube), as well as digital and traditional media, according to carefully structured communication strategies.
