The Youth Department of the City Council of Jaca develops the local youth policies. Its actions are based on information, participation, prevention of addictions through alternative leisure and promotion of mobility as an element of social and personal development. It counts with a Youth Information Office, part of the SAIJ ( Sistema Aragonés de Información Joven, Youth Information System of Aragon). Apart from being an information centre, it is also a meeting place for young people of Jaca. It carries out the following programmes: Information Area: Justified because of the connection between information, participation and equality of opportunities, the aims of this area are: Decentralize access to information Diversify the channels of access to information Promote information skills All this is done through the following channels Cyberspace: Open to public service with wife and computers. SMS service: Personalised information according to concerns and needs shown by young people. Currently, we count with 706 users sending about 30,000 messages/year. International cards: ISIC (student/teacher) YHF (youth hostels) Eurodesk Relay: We count with one of the Eurodesk relays in Aragon. "Opportunities for employment and training", a monthly bulletin with information about training, employment and mobility. Information channels in the rural environment (AIMER): young people inform young people: Its aim is the access to information from peers. Young volunteers participate in information tasks in secondary schools and small towns (Jaca counts with 36 with less than 200 inhabitants). The groups of young people suggest initiatives and these are transmitted to the Youth Department. To carry out this programme, we have organised a Network with other regions and municipalities of rural areas of Aragon. This networking initiative is supported by the Youth Institute of Aragon and is financed by the LEADER Programme.
