Datça M.E.M is the local authority in the field of education in Datça. It administrates, supports and controls all formal and non-formal adult educational activities in Datça as well as school education. It is a non-profit Public Body which governs 1 nursery school, 5 primary schools, 5 Secondary schools, 2 Vocational Schools, 1 High School, 1 Adult Education Centre and some other private organizations. It has 2600 formal students, nearly 600 informal students (most of them are seniors) 25 directors/vice, nearly 200 teachers and 50 employees. It also coordinates all Life Long Learning activities in the town. Since 2012, it is the legal authority to certify the adult learners (not only locals but also immigrants) and all adult practical skills within the frame of Life Long Learning Education Programme of the Ministry of Education. Thus Directorate of National Education of Datça (Datça MEM); - determines the need of formal/informal education, - provides equal educational and social possibilities to motivate the students in Datça, -Supports and organizes various sports activities at schools and increases the motivation of the students to provide a qualified learning system and promotes entrepreneurship education and social entrepreneurship among young people. -increases synergies and links, improved transition between the different systems of education and training at national levels with improved use of European reference tools for recognition, validation and transparency of competences and qualifications; - supports schools to tackle early school leaving (ESL) and disadvantage as well as to address all students from the lowest to the highest end of academic spectrum, -organises/runs necessary courses in formal/adult education, motivates the students and certifies learners in these courses, - Increases school attainment level of the students, - integrates use of ICTs and opens educational resources (OER) by education, training and youth systems; -determines the need of students and supports their practical skill needs and social requirements, -trains and supports teachers in all levels in the local area, develops new approaches to strengthen the education and training paths of prospective and practicing educators/youth workers; equips them with all competences and skills needed to deliver high quality services and address increasingly diverse needs e.g. those posed by multicultural societies. In particular: -creates new opportunities for the inhabitants of Datça. -supports the integration of immigrants not only at schools but also in Datça and equal citizenship. -helps learners in all levels to get over xenophobia and prejudice, Currently, Datça MEM's priorities : Datça (Cnidos) is a tourist attraction and a historical health town situated on the southwest coast of Turkey. It has a population of 17.000 which is growing year by year. During the summertime this population grows up to 50000s. Not only many tourists visit the town but also a lot of people come to work in summer. Most of them don't leave the town and decide to live in Datça. With this migration, the need of formal and non-formal education which is provided by the directorate is coming into prominence.
