MOVEA - Portuguese Movement for Artistic Intervention and Education for Art

The Movimento Português de Intervenção Artistica e Educação pela Arte - MOVEA - is an association of teachers and artists involved in arts education. Its main activity is to coordinate and to promote practices of Arts Education blending through research theory and practice. Our activities aim to promote educational campaigns in educational and cultural contexts. One of the purposes of this organization according to its statues is to cooperate with national and international partners disseminating research of Arts Education. Along its existence, this Movement has created a network of members from various professional areas: teachers, from pre-school to higher education, researchers, students, technical education services to arts and cultural institutions, artists, cultural workers, health professionals and the humanities and social sciences.The key activities of MOVEA include the organization of training courses of short and long term as well as the organization of conferences and meetings. We promote the debate and reflective work with those professionals interested in the practice of arts education in the curricula of any level of education, or, in a broader sense interested in the importance of art int the development of a more conscious and critic citizen. As training is concerned the, MOVEA has a humanistic tradition and strongly advocates the development of individual and collective creativity. It is our belief that the triangle of pedagogy, psychology and art are the base for an harmonious individual development having a great power in change of attitudes. We are in line with other agencies such as UNESCO in recognition of the important place arts education must play in personality structure. In the field of education it contributes to the enrichment of teaching and learning processes. As a policy intervention in MOVEA intends to develop forms of articulation between Expression and Artistic Education, at School, and at Community with contributions from various fields such as aesthetics, psychology, sociology, pedagogy.
