Consol Theater

Consol Theater is located in a former mine site of an industrial german area. It got opened in 2001 and developed itself as a house of living theater, engaging a meaningfull responsability into both cultural education and social coexistence of people from different ages – 6 to 92 - origins and backgrounds. The plays resulting of the work done are treating very concretely of the realities of the audience’s lifes, youngsters, for most of them. Every season, the Theater is presenting three new productions. Making theatre, not only for citizens but with them is the very key point of this structure. Artistic projects are build on the key words of participation and empowerement. Work is being done between amateurs, professionnals, pedagogues, from theatre but also music and danse. Main projects are in between education, sociology and art. Since 2001, more than 140 youngsters got perspectives opened thanks to theatre and found an orientation for their lives passing by this Theatre. Since a few years, Consol Theatre is broaden much further than Gelsenkirchen, it plays also a role regionnally (with others cultural theatres all around) and european one. It took part and even build years long Erasmus projects such as EuropeFiction, LeCake or TheatreMakePolitic, engaging nowdays very current society challenges and stakes. Thoose projects take place in different ways : from international workshops and gatherings, until festivals, from online meetings until new educative creative tools and methods, spread with partners.
