Union of Agricultural Work Committees

The Union of Agricultural Work Committees( UAWC) is a Palestinian local organization established in 1986 as a response to the vulnerable socio-political circumstances of farmers that resulted from occupation policies in confiscating lands and water. UAWC focuses on the progressive development of society by socially engaging mainly in the agricultural field. UAWC defines itself as part of the Palestinian national and social-rights-movement the main goal of which is to achieve food sovereignty. Consequently, UAWC designs its projects to improve alimentary conditions in the context of the right of access to land, water and further resources. UAWC cooperates with the international network La Via Campesina that unites farmers, small and medium producers, landless and indigenous communities and rural workers to support social justice and gender equality within fair economic relations. Throughout its interventions, UAWC is able to reach hundreds of communities and more than 30,000 farmer beneficiaries each year. The impact that UAWC’s projects carry is huge and can be concretely seen in the positive shift of farmers’ living conditions, where their rights are defended and their production and economy is empowered. UAWC ever growing ambition to improve its capabilities and efficiency in addressing the harsh reality of the agricultural sector in Palestine, as well as coping with the current developments on the ground, is the framework that drives the union’s search for improvement opportunities, where the union is looking forward to build an institution that is distinct from others in the quality of its services and its outreach, the union is mainly interested in developing the Palestinian farmer and strengthen their steadfastness against the Israeli's violations of social, economic and national rights.
