1. Junior High school of Sofades

The 1st Junior High School of Sofades is the only Junior High School in a large agricultural region. The school has 350 registered students (12-15 years old) but only 250 attend. 130 are Roma and foreigners, mainly Albanians. The Roma do not attend to the largest percentage and due to them a great school dropout is observed in our school unit. The composition of the student population is heterogeneous with few excellent students some good and a significant proportion (mainly Roma and foreigners) almost illiterate. There are also students from disadvantaged social and economic backgrounds, many of whom have learning difficulties. We have integration classes for students with learning difficulties and a social worker and a psychologist, who provide support work. The school organizes sporting events and cultural activities with the choir and the theatrical group, in order to promote equal opportunities for all students.
