15. Kolordu Primary School is located in the Esentepe neighborhood of Derince district of Kocaeli. Our school has many disadvantaged and Syrian students due to the region it is located in. At the same time, since we are in a location that receives a lot of immigration, our student diversity is high. Again, for this reason, students may experience adaptation and communication problems. There are also children who were affected by the earthquake disaster last year in our country and migrated to our city. Our school was officially built on December 5, 1986, and when it first opened, it only served as a primary school. However, over time, it was decided to open special education classes in our school as needed. Currently, we have 12 basic education classes, 3 from each branch, 1 English class, 1 library, 1 computer class, 1 chess class, 1 conference hall and 6 special education classes in our school. We have 12 teachers and 33 students in these 6 special education classes. These special needs students are transported to our school from surrounding neighborhoods. There are 4 levels in our special education and basic education classes. Our students receive 6 hours of lessons a day. These lessons are; Turkish, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Visual Arts, Physical Education, English, Music and English drama courses. Additionally, some shows are organized with English Drama classes at the end of the year. Since the LET SCHOOLS BE LIFE PROJECT is implemented in our school, Chess, Folk Dances, Instrument, Painting and Drama courses are opened by Derince Public Education Center. In addition, every year a theme is determined in our school and trainings, seminars, competitions and events are organized by our school. Our teachers and students show high participation in these events. The theme we chose last year was about saving our seas and marine animals and informing our students about protecting them. This year, We are involved in an Erasmus+ project. It is about Raising sustainable environment awaresness in special needs students. our aim is to make them sensitive to society and the environment, and to integrate them with basic education students. We strive to be useful to our students and to raise them as citizens who can use and produce information and are equipped to meet the needs of the era.
