The Museum of Energy and Technology was the first public power plant in Vilnius, that operated from 1903 to 1998. The opening of the museum coincided with the 100th anniversary of the Vilnius Power Plant, which was converted into the largest technical museum in Lithuania, covering different aspects of industrial heritage and science. The main purpose of the museum is education - teaching the visitors about the equipment used by power stations, various types of energy and industry of Vilnius. There are two interactive exhibitions aim to stimulate interest in science and technologies in an entertaining way and to popularise science in society. The exhibits are a lively illustration of different technical inventions and demonstrate different scientific approaches. There are also several workshops aiming to raise interest in science, art, and technology - whether they are discussions about illusions or workshops about how to build a lightbulb having only basic things at home.
