Farkaslyuk is located in BAZ County in Hungary, in Ózd District, west of the Uppony Hills, in the main valley of the Ózd Brook. During the building of the school ( 1961 ), the Farkaslyuk Mine provided significant assistance. Until it’s total closure in1988, the Mine had continously supported the school. Since then many modernisations have become urgent. Our institution is provided with 10 classrooms, 3 vocational classrooms, 2 rooms for special education, 1 library and 1 gymnasium at the moment, which help us cover all the areas of our pedagogical activites. The improvement of accessability for disabled people in our institution has been realised as part of the Új Magyarország Fejlesztési Terv ÉMOP Tender. The equipment supply of your intitution is exceptionally good, for our IT room’s assets have been renewed during the TIOP Tender. New and up-to-date computers and 10 interactive whiteboard packs in different classrooms help our pedagogical activities. At present the number of students in our institution is 168. For our end goals now there are 12+2 conscientious and professionally competent teachers working in our school. Our pedagogical activities are largely influenced by the social environment we are working in. As amongst the parents of our students low levels of education and literacy is typical, as well as low income levels, we usually have to face more difficulties as other schools do. We need to lay greater emphasis on choosing the right teaching methods, get students interested in learning and maintaining their interest, upgrading the students with special needs, as well as on building proper and meaningful communication both with our students and their parents. Our institution is aiming at taking the opportunities of different tenders; we took part in Phare and MAG programmes, IPR programmes (coaching programmes for students living with multiple disadvantages) and we have been applying for the subprogramme „Út a középiskolába” of the Útravaló Scholarship Programme for years. Our last successful application was for a EU tender TÁMOP 3.1.4- 12, which lasted for 2 years; as a result our students had opportunities to take part in open-air free-time activities, sports excursions, camps focusing on foreign language learning or different sports; our school also got new equipment that the students could use on a daily basis. The staff of our institution works well together, is supportive of each other, and always focuses on solving the actual problems.
