Our institution is one of the eleven separate correctional facilities within the Marmara Correctional Facilities Campus. It was built according to the L-type project and began operation in June 2008. The features of our L-type correctional facility are similar to those of the other L-type correctional facilities on the campus. The characteristics of these facilities are as follows: These correctional institutions are closed facilities built to international standards, designed to replace older correctional institutions in major cities or to address capacity deficiencies. They are equipped with adequate physical spaces to meet the accommodation, health, and educational needs of detainees and convicts, and to facilitate sports and cultural activities. L-type correctional facilities are designed with 61 general units (dormitories), 4 rooms for 3 persons each, and 40 single-occupancy rooms. The standard dimensions of the spaces in the facility are 12.45 m² for individual rooms, 65.19 m² for open courtyards, and 56.59 m² for common living units, with a total unit area of 208.93 m². Detainees and convicts are accommodated in dormitories, which have 7 separate rooms. In these rooms, there are double, transparent windows measuring 100 x 125 cm, an emergency call button with a light for calling staff, and in the common living area of the dormitory, there is a TV antenna connection, a multi-channel central radio, a kitchen counter, two electrical outlets, an emergency call button, and shared toilets and bathrooms. The room doors are designed to be lockable from the inside, and one of the two existing doors in the dormitory opens to the ventilation (garden) area and remains open during daylight hours until sunset. Detainees and convicts can gather in the common living area and courtyard during the day. The correctional institution has a main control center and six partial control centers, where daily services (such as roll call, hospital visits, visits, court hearings, releases, etc.) are recorded, staff transitions between administrative blocks and detainee/convict blocks are monitored, and all circulation is organized. The institution uses biometric eye scanners, sensitive door and hand detectors for controlling entry and exit of individuals, and X-Ray machines for checking items. The X-Ray machine is a system installed to obtain detailed images of all items entering the correctional institution using X-rays. The system operates with two separate monitors, which are used to display the details and contents of items, and zoom-in (close-up) can be performed on suspicious objects. The staff at this correctional institution includes: the institution director, deputy director, administrative officer, accountant, doctor, dentist, psychologist, social worker, teacher, clerk, health officer, chief of execution and protection, execution and protection officer, technician, caregiver, porter, laundress, boiler operator, and service staff.
