The Gaziosmanpaşa District Governorship of the Republic of Turkey was established as a separate entity from the Eyüp District by Law No. 308 on August 27, 1963, adopting the name "Gaziosmanpaşa" in honor of the Hero of Plevne, in accordance with the wishes of the local populace. Gaziosmanpaşa, one of Istanbul's later settlements, began its development in the 1950s and was officially designated as a district in 1963. According to the 2007 Address Based Population Registration System, it emerged as the most populous district in Turkey, with a population of 1,013,000, surpassing 64 provinces in terms of population density. However, following the formation of two new districts, Arnavutköy and Sultangazi, from the Gaziosmanpaşa District in 2008, as stipulated by Law No. 5747 concerning the Establishment of Districts within the Metropolitan Municipality and Amendments to Certain Laws, Gaziosmanpaşa was ultimately divided into three separate districts. As of 2021, Gaziosmanpaşa has a population of 493,096, comprising 247,587 men and 245,509 women. In percentage terms, this translates to 50.21% male and 49.79% female. The district is home to 115,556 young individuals aged between 15-29. Established in 2017, the Gaziosmanpaşa District Governorship functions as the highest representative body, collaborating with local governments, organizations, and NGOs in various domains to support disadvantaged groups. Additionally, it oversees the activities of other public institutions within the district and engages in numerous collaborative initiatives. Our institution works in partnership with the Istanbul Governorship and Gaziosmanpaşa Municipality, alongside all stakeholders dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in our district, safeguarding natural and cultural heritage, and devising innovative, effective, and practical solutions to urban challenges with the potential to generate new employment opportunities in the labor market. The district governorship employs 48 paid staff members. The projects initiated under its leadership are aimed at benefiting society at large. The White House Project implements a preventive and protective intervention strategy focused on victims, perpetrators, and children, providing a psychosocial support module to families registered under the "Domestic Violence" framework within Gaziosmanpaşa.
