The alternative LAI offers stems from the international experience of the founding members whose ideas blend the western liberal thought with the traditional local values. This is our recipe for presenting new alternative solutions. Our activities will include: Events (conferences, round tables, debates, campaigns, workshops, seminars, trainings), Research and Policy Analysis. The focus of our activities is: Human Rights, Public Policy, Historical Dialogue, Media, Euro-Atlantic Integration, Balkan Politics, Gender Issues, Youth Empowerment and Education, and Health and Environment with a special emphasizes on parameters such as local governance and inter-ethnic relations. Our projects are driven by two main components: Inter-disciplinarity which brings together different disciplines that enhance each other in explaining an issue and providing a solution for it, and Multi-perspectivity which forms basis for unbiaseness and transparency. LAI tries to bring a multi-disciplinary approach in its research activities in order to inform better the policy-making institutions and its attempts are to concentrate in strategic thinking rather than operational details. LAI aims at becoming: A platform where different parts of the society come together Change makers in the path of brining a consolidated democracy to the country An alternative for those who do not belong in any of the established camps Advocate of liberal thought Critical voice fostering freedom of opinion and expression Reform seekers in all levels of public policy making in order to achieve a good governance An initiative for new ideas and developments Factor in fostering mutual understanding between different target groups (ethnic, religions, race, ideology) Facilitators of debates and dialogs about the past and the politics of the Balkan Awareness raisers for sensitive and taboo issues Empowerment agents for socially marginalized groups Promoters of democracy, good governance, liberal thought and alternative choices Leaders in civic activism, research and policy making
