Materia Group

Materia Group (www.materia.com.cy) is a private sector social enterprise in Cyprus (registered SME). It is a multi-shareholder organization, with 20 shareholders at the moment. It provides a wide range of Care, Nursing and Rehabilitation Services to Older Adults living in Cyprus, starting from active elders and ranging all the way through 24hr skilled nursing care. Philosophy, management team and operations team, is based on a multi-disciplinary approach, aiming at best possible services for end user and their families. The Group was a co-founder of NGO Gerontology Research Center (www.gerocenter.org) along with the University of Nicosia, and has a close collaboration with Youth Employment/Training Foundation (www.youthempowerment.org.cy), mainly in inter-generational projects. Materia is also a shareholder in Aktios group in Athens (www.aktios.gr), an organization with the same scope and vision, with which we continuously exchange know-how and experience. Materia Group is also an official training center for all Nicosia-based universities, in the areas of Medicine, Nursing, Psychology, Social Work, Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy. The group has co-managed successfully 3 Erasmus+ projects, one EEA grant and 3 EVS placements. We are currently participating in one AAL and one Horizon 2020 project, and have a small but target-oriented and efficient European programs department. >Projects or activities - Large number of Inter-generational programs fostering active, healthy ageing, inter-generational solidarity and volunteerism in children and young adults, in collaboration with NGO Youth Empowerment Organization (www.youthempowerment.org.cy) - Partners in ongoing Horizon 2020 project Frailsafe (U of Patras coordinator) - Partners in ongoing AAL project (National Research Council in Rome coordinator) - Training Center for a number of Universities and departments in Nicosia (St Georges Med School, European University (physio, nursing, speech-language-hearing therapists, business), University of Nicosia (psychology, physio, nursing), Frederick University (social work) - Handling an EEA grant in collaboration with Youth Empowerment Foundation, for the Empowerment of unemployed Youth through mentoring by elderly retired mentors. > Infrastructure 2 owned and fully equipped facilities in different areas of the capital city, operating by a multi-discplinary team (doctors, gerontologist, psychologists, physiotherapists, sociologists, speech therapists, music and drama therapists, social workers, finance/economics managers, accountants, nursing staff of all levels), providing a full range of care /rehabilitation / skilled nursing /dementia care services.
