CENTRE SOCIOCULTUREL DU TEIL

The aim of the social and cultural center is to participate in the development of an equitable region capable of promoting projects which foster social cohesion, a sense of community, solidarity and commitment on the part of the people of that territory. The strategies are: implementation of the social centre’s missions within the local joint district council area, the development of solidarity, support for parents and promotion of the involvement of young people. On this last point we set the following priorities: to enable young people to be recognized as fully-fledged partners, to fight against the increasing precariousness of youth, to involve young people in the running of the structure and to encourage mobility in Europe. As regards the family sector, the social and cultural center is developing a network whereby people exchange knowledge and know-how, organises major events (solidarity festival), family outings, a community garden, a course in French language, parent / child evenings... Concerning the children’s sector (3-11 years), the association has set up leisure activities (during lunch break and on Wednesdays), school holidays activities (organization of theme holidays, trips, cultural workshops), workshops (visual arts, the environment), intergenerational solidarity ... Regarding the teenagers sector (12-17 years), the association has set up a specially-adapted meeting-place where they can get together (le boKal) daily. During school holidays it organises specific activities such as stays and cultural or recreational trips. The other aspect directed at young people is the setting-up of projects for them but also involving them in their organisation, such as European youth exchanges and more generally themed stays. To enable all young people to participate in the activities and trips offered, the association sets up sites with other organisations or the town council on which the youngsters can work on an ‘au pair’ basis to ‘earn’ the necessary financial support. The association participates in all activities conducted within the framework of local authority policy (cultural diversity month, the annual music festival, carnival). The social and cultural center provides support for young people (17-25 years) who wish to train as a youth recreational activity leader. Our organisation employs the equivalent of 17 full-time staff involved in the different activities. 35 volunteers lead the organization or/and activities. In 2012, 33 persons did seasonal work for our organisation (e.g. youth leader during the summer holiday).
