Nigde Akkol Schools, which are located in Nigde Province, are a branch of American Culture Colleges in Turkey. Our institution began its educational life in Education Year with its pre-school primary school and middle school sections. Our founders Murat and Hakan Bayrı have been in education field with language courses and have been serving in this field. Our school’s principles are: -We teach searching not memorizing -We raise students who can defend their rights and freedoms -Students who can stand on their own feet -Students who can fight with every kind of difficulties -students who are aware of their responsibilities and hardworking -students who can speak at least a language fluently -Students who are technologically capable -Students who have scientifical background -Students who do not accept anything without questioning, and students who are aware of their personal rights mean nothing without other people’s right -Students who are intellectual enough to live anywhere in the world -Students who respect beliefs and traditions of the community -Students who claim their own values and traditions -Students who neither underestimate themselves nor someone else and who aim to be successful individuals in their future lives. HISTORY OF THE AMERICAN CULTURE COLLEGES Having been in the education sector for more than 100 years, American Culture Institutions have been run by "Union of Brands Turkey"since 2002. With the goal of developing the relations between Republic of Turkey and The United States of America, American Culture Institution therefore run more than 100 Language Courses, more than 50 kindergarten and 30 colleges around Turkey. Our institution,whose board of managers are all Turkish,raises students who respect the beliefs and traditions of the country that they live in and who at utmost level can represent their own culture in the international area. As in the past our historical aim is to dignify the country and the culture we live in, our institution has focused on raising students who have the ability to lead the world of economics with no limits. OUR EDUCATION SYSTEM- BILINGUAL EDUCATION -Bilingual Education shortly means education with two languages. Today in many parts of the world children are growing up learning two languages at the same time. People who use two languages in their daily lives are called bilingual. In American Culture Colleges we teach English as a process of sharing things like our natural life instead of saying “ OK, we are going to teach you English grammar now.” -In American Culture Colleges in kindergarden,primary and middle school section there are two teachers in the classroom in every lesson; one class or branch teacher and one English teacher. In our schools that apply this bilingual system, the students are able to speak English like their mother tongue when they graduate from our school at the end of 8th grade. WE ARE TEACHING ENGLISH AT THE UTMOST LEVEL - Except for English education at school(apart from 8thand 12th grade), our students practice their speaking abilities for 8 hours on Saturdays with international English teachers. - During these activities they go on field trips, drama, games and all kinds of materials are used. In this activity speaking Turkish is strictly forbidden. -American Culture Colleges are one of the best English teaching institutions in Turkey. WE ARE TEACHING COMPUTER AT THE HIGHEST LEVEL -In Private Nigde Akkol Middle School every student improves their skills operatively in the Information And Communication Technology lesson and Coding Software lesson and our students are always using up to date educational software. Thanks to these lessons our students aim to achieve: -Computer; helps our students manage their experiences, set their experiences’ speed and choose the best level for themselves. - Kids, will be more sensitive towards technology as long as they learn more about computer. And this will have an important role for their future. -Quality educational softwares, not only help students develop their reading-writing skills but also they will be effective about improving some of their skills such as comprehending cause-effect relations, high level problem solving and creative thinking. - Every student prepares his/her website on his/her own. -In American Culture Colleges managers of the future are brought up.Therefore ICT leason is crucial and strict. During the enrollment students are given the domain adresses to create the website within the year in the lessons. Our students can form their website in web design, code software and ICT lessons. EUROPEAN LANGUAGE PORTFOLIOS EUROPEAN LANGUAGES PORTFOLIOS AND AMERICAN CULTURE COLLEGES Since it has been decided by the European Commission to standardize many issues, in foreign language teaching a common standardization has been demanded. European Language Portfolio is a document on which learners of a foreign language-whether learned it at school or outside-write down their experience and cultural interactions and explain themselves. -It is an evaluation system which is based on The Common European Framework. "Learners freedom" and " self assessment" are the educational notions that this system depends on. European Language Passport Sections Language Passport: Some personal information about the languages that you can speak and there are language level indexes that are designed by European Council of Modern Languages Foreign Language Background: There are Self realization, inter-cultural interactions and " I can do it" expressions( self evaluation) Dossier: There are documents such as certificates, diplomas sample projects and articles. American Culture Colleges are one of the very few institutions in Turkey that is authorized to give European Language Passport.
