The Institute for the Deaf provides special education to hearing impaired students from pre to high school level, including vocational and technical education. It caters for about 200 students coming from all over Poland, and employs about 80 teachers . The school was established in 1817 and its long standing tradition define it as one of the key institution working closely with with the deaf society in Poland to evaluate and explore innovations in special education. The school also provides individual tuition for children with additional disabilities. The Institute understands the impact of European projects on students and teachers to become truly European citizens and life-long learners. The school has been working internationally for years, establishing strong relations with different countries, triggering discussions and exchange of good practices and experience.
