City of Pula

Pula is a 3000 year old town with its first urban history started with the Roman Empire. Today in Pula live 52,920 inhabitants* into 22,134 households. (* source: 2021 Population census preliminary results). The City of Pula is the eighth largest town in Croatia and the largest town and economical center of Istria Region. The City of Pula in its self-governing scope performs tasks of local significance, taking care of citizens’ rights which are not assigned to state bodies by the Constitution or by law and especially jobs related to: - arrangement of settlements and housing, - spatial and urban planning, - communal economy, - childcare, - social care, - primary health care, - upbringing and education, - culture, physical culture and sports, - consumer protection, - protection and improvement of the natural environment, - fire protection and civil protection, - traffic in its area, - maintenance of public roads, - issuance of building and location permits, other acts related to construction, and implementation - spatial planning documents, - and other tasks in accordance with special laws
