Associazione Folklorica Minturno

The commonality of ancient and modern was the driving force that pushed the young people of Minturno to work so that the music, traditions, and folklore of Aurunci would go beyond their borders to reach the various parts of Italy and the world. This is how the Associazione Folklorica Minturno found its reason to exist, founded in 1989 by its artistic director and president Francesco Mallozzi, in the small town of Minturno, a medieval village overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, about 150 km from Rome and 80 km from Naples. The Association has been carrying on for years a discourse of valorization and rediscovery of its artistic and cultural heritage, of its popular roots, of its uses and customs, so that its children, students today, will be tomorrow teachers of their children and its traditions, currently very much alive and that they will not be forgotten and dissolved over time. The distinctive feature and source of pride of the group is the traditional costume of La Pacchiana, a costume that was awarded in a review of over 500 as the most beautiful in Italy, during the wedding of Umberto II in 1934, and received the first prize at the World Festival of Bogota, Colombia, in 1981.
