Plungė District Municipality is located in north-western Lithuania, in the historic region of Samogitia (Žemaitija). The municipality combines a vibrant town with rural communities and is known for its rich cultural heritage, beautiful natural landscapes, and active community life. The Municipality Administration is responsible for implementing local public policies and providing a wide range of public services, including education, culture, youth affairs, social services, tourism, environmental protection, sports, and community development. We work closely with schools, youth organisations, NGOs, cultural institutions, libraries, museums, local businesses, and international partners. International cooperation is an important part of our development strategy. We actively participate in Erasmus+, European Solidarity Corps, Interreg and other European initiatives that strengthen youth work, adult learning, civic participation, social inclusion, sustainability and innovation in local communities. Our municipality has extensive experience in organising international exchanges, study visits, seminars, conferences and training activities. We value long-term partnerships based on trust, mutual learning and the exchange of good practices. Plungė District is home to a strong network of educational and cultural institutions, including schools, libraries, museums, arts organisations, youth centres and community organisations. These institutions regularly cooperate in local and international projects, creating opportunities for citizens of all ages to learn, participate and contribute to community life. Our municipality pays particular attention to empowering young people through participation in decision-making processes, strengthening local youth organisations, supporting volunteering and promoting active citizenship. We also invest in adult learning initiatives that improve professional competences, digital skills and community leadership. As a municipality, we are committed to promoting intercultural dialogue, European values, inclusion and sustainable development.
