MOSAICO - Shared Landscape

MOSAICO – Shared Landscape is a rural development and landscape management company based in Vinhais, in the northeast of Portugal, a territory of high ecological value and strong agricultural and forestry traditions. The organisation works at the intersection of agriculture, forestry, nature conservation and territorial development, promoting sustainable solutions that balance production, biodiversity, climate resilience and the economic valorisation of local resources. Its main areas of activity include sustainable landscape management, support for collective and integrated land management models, the promotion of extensive grazing and silvopastoral systems, the conservation and valorisation of local breeds and traditional practices, and the sustainable use of non-wood forest products. MOSAICO also promotes rural tourism, small-scale agro-food projects, and other nature-based economic activities connected to the sustainable use of the territory, while supporting the enhancement of ecosystem services and climate adaptation strategies for agricultural and forest landscapes. The organisation is particularly interested in strengthening cooperation between Mediterranean regions facing similar challenges, such as land abandonment, rural depopulation, biodiversity loss and climate change. Through European cooperation projects, MOSAICO aims to promote practical training opportunities for farmers, shepherds, forest managers, local associations and other rural stakeholders, facilitating peer learning, exchange of good practices and the development of innovative nature-based solutions for resilient rural landscapes. Its long-term vision is to contribute to more resilient, productive and socially vibrant rural territories, with a strong commitment to the local development of Vinhais and the surrounding region, where communities play an active role in shaping sustainable landscapes and creating opportunities for future generations.
