GenT acts as a bridge between young people, the municipality, schools, youth organisations, public institutions and the wider community. Its role is both operational and strategic: it provides safe and inclusive spaces for young people, organises non-formal education and development programmes, supports volunteering and civic engagement, strengthens youth participation in decision-making, and contributes to the long-term development of Trnava as a youth-friendly and child-friendly city. The organisation was established in 2025 as one of the first city-level public youth organisations of this kind in Slovakia. GenT was created to bring together existing youth initiatives in Trnava, develop new opportunities for children and young people, and ensure that youth work is not only project-based, but systematic, visible and sustainable. GenT’s work is based on the values of development, participation, cooperation, transparency, communication, openness, identity and a human-centred approach. Its mission is to create a city where young people have safe spaces, opportunities for growth, access to information, support from adults, and real influence on the decisions that affect their lives. Main purpose and fields of activity The basic purpose of GenT is to: • support active citizenship and participation of young people in decision-making processes in the city; • coordinate the activities of the Trnava Youth City Parliament; • organise and support activities for young people focused on education, personal development, cultural enrichment and civic engagement; • operate and develop youth clubs and other youth spaces; • support inclusion and equal opportunities for all young people, regardless of social, cultural, economic or other differences; • create strategies and concepts in the field of youth policy in the city; • build partnerships and cooperation with organisations, schools, communities and public institutions; • support volunteering and community engagement; • develop international cooperation and Erasmus+ partnerships; • monitor the needs of young people and contribute to improving conditions for youth in Trnava. GenT combines direct youth work with strategic youth policy development. This means that the organisation not only works directly with children and young people in clubs, events and educational programmes, but also helps the city design better policies, services and opportunities for young people.
