Local Action Group for Youth in Alba Iulia

The Local Action Group for the Youth of Alba Iulia (GAL Tineri Alba Iulia) is a Romanian youth NGO founded in 2026 as the institutional legacy of Alba Iulia - Youth Capital 2026. We apply the LEADER community-led approach to an urban setting: instead of delivering services to young people, we build the infrastructure on which young people build their own city. Our governance follows the Quadruple Helix model - our founding members include the Municipality of Alba Iulia, the "1 Decembrie 1918" University, and eight civil-society and business organisations. Our Local Youth Development Strategy and our "City of the Young" programme deliver neighbourhood youth hubs, a youth-led microgrant fund where youth juries decide real budgets, an incubator for new youth groups, and structured youth participation (Hart/Lundy ladder, EU Youth Dialogue). We work with young people aged 14-35, with a strong focus on those with fewer opportunities - NEETs and young people from marginalised urban zones. Our method is Asset-Based Community Development, non-formal learning and youth agency: from doing things FOR young people, to WITH them, to BY them. As a legal entity we are at the start of our international track record and are actively looking for partners. We offer a mobilised local youth community, municipal and Quadruple-Helix backing, and reliable local implementation in Romania / Transylvania. We are interested in Erasmus+ Youth (Youth Exchanges, mobility of youth workers, Cooperation Partnerships) and the European Solidarity Corps.
