FOROIGE's Loobagh Area Youth Project

Foróige is the leading youth organisation in Ireland, working with approximately 50,000 young people aged 10-18 every year through volunteer-led clubs and staff-led youth projects. Founded in 1952, Foróige currently operates in 26 counties in Ireland, with 480 Foróige clubs, 142 youth projects, the Big Brothers Big Sisters mentoring programme, youth information centres and the Network for Teaching Entrepreneurship. Foróige works with all young people through our general services and also works with vulnerable young people who require additional support through a full range of targeted services. General services such as Foróige clubs, special interest groups, volunteer-led youth cafés, feeder clubs and youth fora, encourage young people to take responsibility and be part of shaping the world around them while developing their talents, skills and character, while also having a great time along the way. Targeted services such as Garda Youth Diversion Projects, Teen Parent Support Programmes and Neighbourhood Youth Projects, help young people to deal with issues associated with poverty, marginalisation and social exclusion, under-achievement at school, early school leaving, youth crime, substance abuse and family difficulties in a safe friendly environment. The Loobagh Area Youth Project is a Foroige project based in County Limerick since 2001. There is 2 full time youth workers in this project who engage with approximately 150 young people per week. We are interested in bringing a group of young people on an exchange this summer - 2012. The young people are members of our Footsteps Youth Theatre, aged 13-17years old and are interested in meeting other young people who have a generally interest in drama, along with taking part in other fun and exciting activities. We are happy to liase with our host partners on the themes and activities for this exchange. If any of this information sounds interesting to you and you would like more details or to host us this summer, please us!!!
