Iecava Youth council is a non-governmental organisation situated in a town called Iecava, Latvia, founded in 2009 by a few young and active iecavians with an aim to add value to the town and keep its progress going. Every year one by one other young people joined the founders and now Iecava Youth Council consist of 5 board members and around 20 active members and several youngsters who actively participate only for specific events. The average age range in the organisation is from 14 to 40 years. The purpose of the organisation is to gather and integrate local people who are interested in youth development within formal or informal education and those who want to organise various events or want to take part in them. As the main tasks Iecava Youth Council has declared to encourage Iecava’s youth to participate in the town’s social life, to represent Iecava youth in the country and outside its borders, to organise various events, seminars, lectures and conferences and to keep a platform for the idea realisation for local youth. In the 5 years of Youth Concils running it has gained a status of a publically beneficial organisation, it’s grown to be the biggest youth organisation in Iecava region, it has organised numerous events. The annual ones such as charity event every Christmas for children with health issues or local elderly, states youth short-film festival, talent festival for locals and many other individual events such as seminars for local youngsters or conferences between non-governmental organisations in Iecava. The Youth Concil has organised one European youth-exchange project with another youth organisation form Spain, Malaga, where Latvians introduced Spanish with their historic traditions. With corporation with the state’s employment service, within its youth employment project, Iecava Youth Council has employed 12 young adults, each of them for a time period for around 6 months. The future plans for this organisation include even greater participation in development of local youth politics, international activities and remaining to its already created cultural traditions.
